There are five main types of loft conversions in United Kingdom and they are dormer loft conversion, hip to gable loft conversion, L shaped loft conversion, mansard loft conversion and Velux loft conversion.

2. Dormer Loft Conversion > 

Dormer Loft conversions are the most popular loft conversion in the UK. They have a flat roof dormer. This type of loft conversion is Box shaped and construction of this type of dormer loft normally takes 4 – 5 weeks. 

Many dormer loft conversions fall under permitted development rights. These rights do allow you to extend your house without the need of planning permission as long strict planning permission guidelines are followed.

3. Hip to Gable Loft Conversion >

Hip to gable loft conversions straightens a slanted end roof to create vertical wall. This option has become very popular due to the amount of space offered internally.

This loft conversion type is combined with a rear dormer for maximum space, hip to gable lofts are suitable for bungalows. 

A major benefit of a hip to gable loft conversion is that they can fall under permitted development rights. as long strict planning permission guidelines are followed. We do however recommend a lawfulness certificate to be obtained from local the planning department.

4. L Shaped Loft Conversion >

L Shaped Loft Conversions are designed to offer maximum space and also to increase value of the whole property. Most L shaped loft conversions have two rooms or one very large room and additional large bathroom.

5. Mansard Loft Conversion >

Mansard Loft Conversions a designed and build by raising party wall where roof will remain flat while the outer wall will slope gently inwards.

Mansard lofts take longer to construct and are more expansive than other types of loft conversions. These type of lofts blend well with older properties, there is more headroom and allows more light into the loft.

Planning permission is almost always required for mansard loft conversions. These conversions create maximum living space within your roof by effectively creating another storey to your property.
